Introduction

Carpenters build and install the timber structural elements of a new home and the wooden interior fittings. They also install and remove temporary works used during the construction process.

Carpenter

Typical Tasks

  • Installing floor joists, floorboards, roof trusses, wall partitions

  • Installing interior fittings (staircases, doors, skirting boards, cupboards, kitchens)

  • Understanding technical drawings

  • Having expert knowledge in different types of wood and their uses

  • Using a wide range of hand and power tools.

  • Measuring, marking up, cutting, shaping, fitting and finishing timber

  • Qualified and experienced carpenters can earn in the region of £30,000-£35,000 and up to £40,000+.
