Build Manager

Introduction

A build manager is a senior / middle manager who reports to the Construction Director and is responsible for managing all the processes on a construction site.  Assists in the pre-operational programming to ensure that site commencement dates can be achieved, supervises site set up, demolition programmes, etc.  Responsible for monitoring performance against time, quality and cost.  Operates at a more senior level to a Contracts Manager.

Typical Tasks

  • Making sure that the project is delivered safely through effective planning, production of method statements and risk assessment.
  • Being the main point of contact for all people involved in a project,
  • Prepare the site and meet other professionals before construction starts
  • Use construction management software packages to plan how the work will be undertaken.
  • Managing the completion of the building and the handover to the client.

Earning Potential

  • Newly trained contracts managers can earn £25,000 - £35,000
  • Trained contracts managers with some experience can earn £35,000 - £45,000
  • Senior, chartered or master contracts managers can earn £45,000 - £70,000

  • A BTEC in Building Studies, Building Engineering or Building Management or a HNC / HND / Degree in Construction Management (including an industrial placement).
  • A minimum of three years' experience of managing elements of construction projects
