Steel Fixers position and secure the steel reinforcing bars and mesh that are used in reinforced concrete on construction projects. They are responsible for determining the size, shape, quantity and location of the reinforcing bars to be used. They make their decisions by interpreting specifications and by following verbal instructions. They will then measure, cut, bend and fix steel into reinforcement cages. They use a range of mechanical tools (known as nips) such as bar bending and cutting equipment during fixing operations.
