Job Title: Apprentice Bricklayer

Employer: Crest Nicholson PLC

Job: Bricklayer

About my job

Why did you choose to take up an apprenticeship?

I wanted to learn a practical trade and after looking into becoming a bricklayer decided that an apprenticeship programme would be best suited to me.

What attracted you to the industry?

I’ve always been passionate about building – how they get erected and the process of starting with nothing and creating great places. It all started after secondary school; every day I passed a local building site and saw the progress and how it was being done.

What attracted you to Crest Nicholson?

I went to one of the sites and really liked the variety of buildings and how they’re built. Crest Nicholson gave me the opportunity to learn this trade via an apprenticeship which was a big draw.

Are you enjoying the programme?

Very much. Hopefully there are many more years to come.

What is the best part of the programme?

How you get treated – everyone treats you with care; you’re not just part of the machine. If something goes wrong there is always somebody to help you.

Would you recommend other people follow the same route?

100 per cent.

What are your career aspirations when the course finishes?

I’d like to be a Site Manager. I would like to start as a Trainee Site Manager and learn about the different trades.
