About my job
What does your department do?
Investigates land opportunities with the aim of purchasing the land for future housing development. We look for immediate sites and also long term strategic opportunities.
What do you do on a day-to-day basis?
On a day to day basis I am managing a number of different sites. Each site could be at a different stage of the bidding process and therefore I could be researching planning policy, working on a layout, generating a build cost or running a valuation. Each day I am faced with new challenges.
What do you like about what you do?
I enjoy meeting and dealing with new people and personalities every day. This offers the opportunity to gain a great deal of new knowledge and new experiences. I am always being challenged by new sites in new locations. Every site is different and therefore the biding process is never boring or repetitive.
Why did you choose this career?
I enjoy all aspects of property development, from planning through to valuation. Land negotiation requires investigating and understanding all aspects of the development cycle; therefore it is a perfect match for my interests.
What qualifications did you need to get this job?
I recently completed an Integrated Masters Degree in planning and property development. I studied at the University of Ulster.
Is there any particular advice you would give to someone looking for a career in your area of work?
If possible get some work experience. I had a placement year at Croudace as a land negotiator and it cemented in my mind that this was the career for me. It also enables you to gain vital on the job experience and make useful contacts for the future.

I enjoy keeping healthy through sport; I play football, golf, tennis and squash.

I have very broad music tastes however most of the music on my iPod is rock.
