Job Title: Apprentice Plumber
Employer: Crest Nicholson PLC
Job: Plumber
About my job
Why did you choose to take up an apprenticeship?
Before joining the programme I was working as a plumber but the company wasn’t putting me through all the training that I wanted and so I decided to look at other avenues.
What attracted you to the industry?
I worked in the industry after finishing school and always enjoyed being outside and the hands on practical work, so it suited me down to the ground.
What attracted you to Crest Nicholson?
The programme at Crest Nicholson is really good; you are supported through all the required training and practical sides of the job as well as having a large variety of sites to work on.
Are you enjoying the programme?
I love it. I will have been part of the programme for five years at the end of it. I am hoping to get onto the Site Management Academy once I have completed the programme.
What is the best part of the programme?
Learning on site and being given the responsibility on site to work as an actual plumber. I’m not good at learning from a text book so this really works for me. Applying the theory I learn at college to practical tasks on site has really helped me thrive and I have been supported throughout.
What do you like most about working at Crest Nicholson?
The variety of work Crest Nicholson have available. There are many different types of sites and construction methods. If I ask to see steelworks or piling, for example, I can go to see it being done in practice not just be shown in a text book. This is true for both plumbing and other trades.
Would you recommend other people follow the same route?
Definitely, 100 percent.
What are your career aspirations when the course finishes?
To join Crest Nicholson’s Site Management Academy and progress to be a Trainee Site Manager.
