Job Title: Development Manager
Employer: Crest Nicholson PLC
Job: Land Manager
About my job
What does your department do?
I work in the Development department with Crest Nicholson London. My department is responsible for acquiring land, managing planning permissions and HA deals as well as Commercial disposals.
What do you do on a day-to-day basis?
Within my day-to-day role I work on a variety of different tasks including; appraising land opportunities, liaising with the planning and design teams on the status of planning applications, ensuring all departments have the required requisite information in order to continue a project through the build and sales process successfully.
What do you like about what you do?
The best thing about my job is that no day is the same. You are at the start of the development process and your decisions help shape the built up environment around you which is a really rewarding experience.
Why did you choose this career?
I had a balanced interest in economics and being able to contribute to the places and communities around you. This role is really varied at being office based as well as site based, it’s great to be able to spend time out of the office and find new opportunities to create new places to live.
What qualifications did you need to get this job?
I needed a university degree in order to get this job. I first worked for Crest Nicholson through a summer placement in 2006 while I was still at university and I was fortunate enough to be offered a job when I completed my degree.
Is there any particular advice you would give to someone looking for a career in your area of work?
If you want to be dynamic in your working life with no day being the same, have the ability to split your time between the office and site as well as contribute to the future built environment and communities, this career path would be worth investigating.
