Job Title: Marketing Coordinator

Employer: Story Homes Limited

Job: Marketing Manager

About my job

What does your department do?

The marketing team is responsible for the promotion of the Story Homes brand and all of our current and forthcoming developments. This includes advertising our developments through both online and offline mediums such as site signage, brochures, newspaper adverts, billboards, radio campaigns, search engine marketing, text/email campaigns and keeping the Story Homes website up-to-date.

What do you do on a day-to-day basis?

We work closely with the Sales department to understand current offers or promotions which need to be pushed for certain homes and developments. I can then use this information to create adverts for newspapers or send out any targeted email campaigns to customers registered with us. I am also involved with organising signage for any new developments opening or the opening of a show home. A lot of my work is in digital marketing like keeping the website updated with correct information and availability. We do a lot of advertising online using Google Adwords, remarketing and homepage takeovers on local newspaper websites. What’s good about the digital marketing is that we have almost instant access to the data for this so know how many people are visiting our website, where they are coming from and their behaviour once they are on it.

What do you like about what you do?

I really enjoy the digital marketing side of things. Technology is always changing and the way we can advertise to customers online is adapting and updating too with some really exciting changes ahead. This helps to keep things fresh as there is always something new to be looking out for and experimenting with.

Why did you choose this career?

When I was at school I always enjoyed my Business Studies class and found this to be something I was quite good at. I pursued this at university where I also did a placement year in America working in a marketing and sales role. After my year was up I found I’d really enjoyed the marketing side of things and decided to focus the last year of my degree on marketing.

What qualifications did you need to get this job?

I have got a degree in Business Studies. I have done an additional course in Digital Marketing to support my progress in this area. This was done through Story Homes and they supported me to complete the course during working time.

Is there any particular advice you would give to someone looking for a career in your area of work?

I think it’s important to be quite a creative person as you constantly have to think of new ideas for ways to advertise a product or business. I’d also say that the way we advertise to customers is developing and more and more of it is based online so having an interest in this will be vital in the future.
