About my job

What does your department do?

We produce drawing packages that comply with building regulations which include construction drawings, details and collaborate with external manufacturers for the superstructure design of houses.

Assist site managers with any on-site queries that occur, providing solutions to overcome problems.

What might a typical day involve?

Producing and designing technical floor plans, sections, elevations and details. Attending site visits, corresponding with manufactures to gather the information required to complete working drawings.

 What is the best part of your job?

Creativity, design and seeing the construction drawings that you have produced come to life.

Why did you choose this career?

I have always wanted to go into the construction industry, and the designing of new build houses really appealed to me. 

What was your route into the industry, what qualifications did you take?

After my GCSEs I went to college and studied A-levels in  Product Design, Graphic Design and Business. I then went to university and graduated with a degree in Architectural Technology (Bsc).

What advice would you give to someone looking for a career in your area of work?

Start as early as possible and work alongside a company whilst getting a degree, this will provide you with experience and knowledge which will beneficial throughout your journey.

Playing/ watching football, going to the gym and keeping fit, relaxing and travelling.
