Job Title: Apprentice Painter and Decorator
Employer: Crest Nicholson PLC
Job: Qualified Painter and Decorator
About my job
Why did you choose to take up an apprenticeship?
I have always enjoyed practical based skills. The opportunity to learn a trade and work at the same time was a real benefit. The hands on learning approach works a lot better, you gain far more knowledge than studying in the classroom.
What attracted you to the industry?
I like how creative it can be. Being in control of the finished product and having the responsibility to carry out your own work is really rewarding.
What attracted you to Crest Nicholson?
It’s a really good company, with high standards and a high quality of work.
Are you enjoying the programme?
I am really enjoying it – I really enjoy working at Crest Nicholson and I want to move on to be a Trainee Site Manager after completing Level 3.
What is the best part of the programme?
When my managers say that they’re proud of the work I’ve done – it makes you feel like you have achieved something and they are very encouraging and supportive.
What do you like most about working at Crest Nicholson?
There are a lot of opportunities to progress. It’s not just a two year apprenticeship programme and then you get thrown away – they offer help, support and training beyond the programme and there are lots of possible routes to go down afterwards.
Would you recommend other people follow the same route?
I have already recommended it to lots of people – definitely.
What are your career aspirations when the course finishes?
I would like to become a Site Manager for a whole site one day. I definitely want to stay working for Crest Nicholson.
