Job Title: Sales & Marketing Assistant

Employer: Fairgrove Homes Ltd

Job: Sales & Marketing Assistant

About my job

What does your department do?

The sales department deals with all incoming enquiries for viewing our houses, meeting visitors on site, reserving plots and dealing with the sales progression (with clients, solicitors, mortgage advisors, lenders).

The marketing side deals with attracting the visitors in the first place. By sending out letters, advertising in local papers, on social media and anywhere else suitable.

What do you do on a day-to-day basis?

There are a few different parts to my role but I mainly focus on sales administration on a day-to-day basis. This involves checking that current sales are progressing, responding to any enquiries from clients, and keeping reservation checklists up to date.

I also take incoming sales calls, save all emails that come in from/go out to clients so that we have a record of everything that has been said, and plan ahead on what marketing can be done for each development.

What do you like about what you do?

I enjoy meeting visitors on site the most because it’s a sociable part of the job and you get to understand what people do and don’t like about the properties. It has also helped me learn how to speak to people about reserving a house and what is involved on the mortgage and finance side of things.

I also enjoy the sales progression as it feels like you are achieving something when you can see the exchange of contracts/legal completion getting closer.

Why did you choose this career?

I chose an apprenticeship because I wasn’t enjoying the college course I was on at the time and didn’t want to be in full time education. I applied for Fairgrove as a Business Administration apprenticeship because I thought I was quite organised and could work well in a team of people. This has led to a sales/marketing based role which isn’t what I set out looking for in a job but am glad I have found something I enjoy.

What qualifications did you need to get this job?

My employer was looking for good maths, English and IT qualifications. As I had come from school and done a college course for a year I only had GCSE qualifications but they were all above C grade with a Distinction in IT.
