Job Title: Building Inspector

Employer: NHBC

Job: Building Inspector

About my job

I joined NHBC as one of the first Trainee Building Inspectors in 2002 having completed a BA (hons) in History at Lancaster University and a Master’s Degree in Heritage Studies at Nottingham.

I started my career in Kent - and it was quite daunting to go from an academic environment to a technically demanding, male dominated position. However, my academic background really enabled me to approach the technical demands of the role - and to this day it’s given me the ability to learn and apply the constant changes in technical knowledge needed to work here. NHBC has supported and developed me with a wide variety of training, including my Level 4 NVQ in Site Inspection.

I am privileged to have a home based position that allows me the professional independence to work with our customers on a daily basis within a supportive team, manager and a wider framework of professionals.

Working for NHBC has helped me grow both professionally and personally. Due to the unique nature of NHBC’s business I applied for a Building Inspector position in Cambridgeshire in 2004 and was able to relocate with my husband back home where we have since had our first child.
